Dr Edward Tull Warnock
Edward Tull-Warnock was one of the first Mixed-Race Black British dentists. Born in 1872 in the town of Folkestone Kent, Edward was the younger brother of Walter Tull, the celebrated footballer and British Army officer.
After being orphaned when they were both children Edward and his brother Walter were placed in a children's home in East London. Edward was adopted by the Warnock family and moved to Glasgow in Scotland. Dr Tull-Warnock went on to train to become a dentist qualifying in 1912. He registered with the British
Dental Association – an outstanding achievement for someone who had been through so much.
Dr Tull-Warnock supported the Socialist Medical Association, who campaigned for equality in healthcare.
He was a keen sportsman. As a member of the Turnberry Golf Club Dr Tull-Warnock won the Weir Trophy in 1928. He was also a talented footballer who played for Scottish club Ayr Parkhouse.
